ArcMap “One or more layers failed to draw: An invalid SQL statement was used”

I created a model involving the tool Make XY Event Layer because I want to plot latitude and longitude points in CSV file columns. The model runs without errors and appears to have plotted the points correctly, but whenever I pan any of the plotted points outside the window, I get the error box “ArcMap Drawing Errors” with the error message “One or more layers failed to draw: An invalid SQL statement was used.” I never used any SQL statements in my model or while just running the Make XY Event Layer tool. It doesn’t appear when I pan or zoom keeping all the points in the viewing window, but only when at least one point leaves the viewing window.
